SFFAII Backs Milestone Human Rights & Social Responsibility Policies for SarGen Handline Tuna Sector

On June 19, 2025, the SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries Inc. (SFFAII), represented by its President Kenrick Teng, participated in a pivotal ceremonial signing event at Sun City Suites. This event marked the formal institutionalization of Human Rights and Social Responsibility (HRSR) Policies, a Grievance Mechanism, and an Age Verification Process for the SARGEN Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association Inc. and its members.

SFFAII's presence underscores its strong support for this significant step towards upholding labor standards, ethical practices, and fair treatment of workers within the local tuna handline sector. The initiative highlights a collective commitment to responsible fisheries management.

The signing was witnessed by key representatives from government and industry, including DOLE Region XII Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales, BFAR Region XII Assistant Regional Director Omar Sabal, DOLE Region XII OIC–Assistant Regional Director Fatima Bataga, SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries Inc. President Kenrick Teng, Gerry Jazmin from the Fresh Frozen Seafood Association of the Philippines, Inc., Chicklet Rillo, Executive Director of the South Cotabato Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Myrvic Kapunan, Executive Director of the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce, and Faith Batatin from the General Santos City Agriculture Office.

To facilitate the implementation of these new policies, essential materials such such as grievance form templates, a grievance hotline, and an age verification tracking logbook were formally turned over to SARGEN Handline officers and individual company owners. This comprehensive initiative reinforces the SARGEN Handline group's leadership in promoting ethical and rights-based practices, with the backing of key industry organizations like SFFAII.
